I want to find a two-bedroom apartment in the Cedar Rapids/Marion/Hiawatha or Iowa City/Coralville areas that will rent to someone after an eviction. Two years ago, I was in an eviction situation. I lost a job after over ten years. I spent several months unemployed and exhausted my savings. As a result, all my bills went unpaid, including eventually my rent. I was able to leave before the sheriff showed up and have been renting a room since then. I have since found a good paying job and am beginning to make amends with my past due payments. However, I know I’m going to face the eviction. Many of my financial problems began during the pandemic, and it simply got worse. I tried to get help from my employer at the time, as well as several agencies, all to no avail.
As I stated before, I’m now in a better financial position. I have paid my rent consistently at my current residence, and I have proof of those payments. I can also show pay statements as proof of income.
I would need a two-bedroom place, preferably
on a ground floor level, because I have some mobility issues. It has to be pet-friendly, because I have a cat. It also must have adequate kitchen space and a dishwasher due to the aforementioned mobility problem. I can afford up to 1250-1300/month. I would be willing to pay double the deposit or several months rent in advance as a sign of good faith. I want to regain some of my independence and asking for a landlord to give a chance.
